Last Thursday
I took Ryan Reigner, a friend from NW Pennsylvania, to see Veer present the British designer Rian Hughes and his work at an event called “Rian Hughes: Tea, Biscuits and Ideas” at the Art Directors Club. Ryan Reigner is an accomplished young graphic artist. He’s on full scholarship, both tuition and room/board, at Parsons.
The ADC has a big glossy glamorous space lobby/public space. For the event it was outfitted with a glittering open bar at least 50 feet long. Waiters (men and women) strolled about offering tiny bites of exotic things.
It was fun. Rian Hughes showed slides of his work and talked about how different pieces and projects came about. Lots of serendipity and found elements.
But I wish I’d been able to split myself in three or more because at the same time, there were two other important events by people we know.
Vincent Virga (friend of Raphael Mostel) was at Cooper Union talking about his new book, Cartographia: Mapping Civilizations.
Bruce Benderson (Layman introduced us years ago.) was reading from his new book, Sex & Isolation at NYU.
Dang!
