Small is Beautiful

Art in Sixes

This looks tasty: Delaware Valley Arts Alliance is putting on a holiday art show, “Art in Sixes” at its space in Narrowsburg. It’s completely made up of works by local artists that are no more than six inches in any dimension. And they’re all available for sale.

Building healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

Vintage YMCA Sign

A small outpost, a little toe on the ground: the YMCA is opening it’s first branch in Sullivan County at the Monticello High School. No pool, but its a start!

What I Did on my Thanksgiving Vacation

November 27, 2007

Nell and Ashley read the directions

We visited Phil’s parents in Meadville for a couple days to celebrate Thanksgiving. It took one day to drive there, one to drive back, but the roads were clear. I love visiting Phil’s parents; I’m lucky to have arguably the best in-laws in the whole world.

Gone baby gone

Okay. So if you’ve been reading my blog, you probably noticed that I didn’t post for, oh… over two weeks.

Embarrassing. I mean, having a blog means that you post regularly, not necessarily every day, but at least every few days or so. I think the idea is that you post often enough that anyone who is interested knows that you and the blog are alive.

The Great Zeldman goes as long as five days without posting, but he’s been blogging since 1995, so he’s got at least a few posts already in the can. Zeldman.com is actually a registered periodical with the Library of Congress and has an ISSN number.

Bubbles, by Rian Hughes

I took Ryan Reigner, a friend from NW Pennsylvania, to see Veer present the British designer Rian Hughes and his work at an event called “Rian Hughes: Tea, Biscuits and Ideas” at the Art Directors Club. Ryan Reigner is an accomplished young graphic artist. He’s on full scholarship, both tuition and room/board, at Parsons.

The ADC has a big glossy glamorous space lobby/public space. For the event it was outfitted with a glittering open bar at least 50 feet long. Waiters (men and women) strolled about offering tiny bites of exotic things.

Water Music

Big Eddy - Delaware River

Oh darn. We closed up the place for the winter on Friday and didn’t stay for the weekend. We missed a performance of Carolyn Steinberg’s “Wild Wysteria” last night at the Tusten Theater in Narrowsburg. We’ve known her for a long time and her music is fascinating.

Photo shoot

There’s a photo shoot going on in front of our building. They asked Otto to be a model. If only he could hold still for 10 seconds!

Otto and Sunny

Phil said he wanted more pictures of the Poochini. So here you go, Otto (the one on the right) and Sunny (Dawn & J.T.’s beauty) mixing it up at the lake last summer. Otto got into the water up to his shoulders, deeper than ever before. All thanks to vying for the stick with Sunny. Still keeping his feet on the ground, of course.

Fire in the hood

Sherman Avenue Fire

Phil got back from walking Otto this morning and told me that a chicken shack caught fire on Sherman Avenue last night. I thought someone was keeping chickens in a little chicken house.

Not exactly.

Try three-alarm fire and 150 firefighters from midnight – @ 3 AM. And I slept right through it about five blocks away. Thank you, thank you, thank you NYC Fire Department!
