Oh boy!

Little H and Lydia’s Place

It looks like the weather is going to be good this weekend. I’m leaving the city on Thursday with the pooch for my next to last weekend at the house before we have to close it up for the winter. The biker (my husband) is joining me soon after. He can really use the break!

So much to do in a mere 3 1/2 days but I really want to go over to Hamish & Henry the bookstore in Livingston Manor on Saturday afternoon (3 PM, Nov. 3) for their next book event. It will be a nice break from all the heavy lifting.

I am crazy for Hamish & Henry. I’ve been a passionate reader since I was tiny and love almost any kind of bookstore. This is truly one of the best bookstores I’ve ever visited.

It’s intimate, but their stock is full of a wide diversity of fascinating books that I would have already had on my buy list, if I’d only known about them. Divine.

And then there’s that cute cafe Peez Leweez just down the street.

By the way, I’m sorry it’s taken so long for me to make my second post. In my exhaustion, a simple technical glitch with the blog left me completely befuddled. I’ve been busting my tail to get Lydia’s Place (cottage next to our house, pictured above) cleaned out.

The lady who used to summer in the cottage never bought retail and saved everything. Four working irons; two unused in the original boxes. Hot rollers from 1974 unused and in the original box.

Countless tchochkes. Dozens of sheets bought on sale. Scores of virgin 1970’s photo postcards from Grossinger’s and The Concord. Mountains of this stuff. Think Collyer brothers.

The goal is making the cottage habitable so we can move in next spring. We plan to stay there while we renovate the big house and Little H. Luckily, I’ve had my neighbor Annie’s help, and together we’ve taken almost everything out and the place is nearly ready.
